Muscat, 4 January 2025 The Oman 3165 Expedition has officially entered Phase 2, advancing its carbon-free maritime journey from Masirah to Dhalkut, following the successful completion of Phase 1. Officially sponsored by Asyad Shipping, the expedition marks a key milestone within a national initiative that integrates sustainability, maritime heritage and environmental responsibility along Oman’s 3,165-kilometre coastline.
Conceived as a zero-emissions maritime expedition, Oman 3165 is undertaken using a traditional Greenland-style solo kayak, powered solely by paddling, ocean currents and waves. Beyond promoting sustainable maritime travel, the expedition incorporates a significant scientific mission. As the explorer covers an average of 25-30 kilometers per day along the coastline, marine life samples are systematically collected for DNA analysis.
This crucial fieldwork will help establish a comprehensive genetic baseline of Oman’s unique marine biodiversity, providing valuable data to enhancing the understanding of coastal ecosystems, and support future scientific research and conservation planning. As such, the expedition serves as a proactive contribution to global marine conservation, while supporting the preservation of Oman’s natural maritime heritage for future generations.
As the official sponsor, Asyad Shipping’s involvement reflects its long-term strategic commitment to embedding sustainability at the core of itsmaritime operations and future growth model. The expedition aligns with Oman Vision 2040 and further strengthens the Sultanate’s international maritime positioning.
Commenting on the initiative, Captain Khalil Al Hooti, Vice President Marine at Asyad Shipping, said, “Oman 3165 represents the direction in which maritime leadership is moving, translating sustainability from policy into practice. Asyad Shipping continues to invest in cleaner fuels, smarter fleet management, and next-generation maritime solutions, and this expedition mirrors that journey. Phase 2 reflects our forward-looking approach to responsible growth, innovation and Oman’s long-term role in shaping the future of sustainable shipping.”
Phase 1 of the expedition validated critical benchmarks in endurance, safety planning, and environmental discipline, demonstrating that long-distance maritime exploration can be conducted responsibly under strict sustainability standards. Phase 2 now builds on this foundation. introducing longer and more complex coastal stretches and new environmental dynamics along Oman’s southern shoreline. The next leg reinforces the expedition’s role as a living platform for climate dialogue and the protection of fragile coastal ecosystems.
As Phase 2 progresses, Oman 3165 continues to project Oman’s identity as a maritime nation that honours its heritage while actively contributing to global sustainability efforts, reinforcing a narrative of responsibility, resilience and forward momentum.
